TRAGIC DEATH OF UGANDAN MAN FROM SWITZERLAND FOUND IN KITGUM LODGE.

news

Shock and grief have engulfed communities in Pader and Kitgum districts following reports that Mr. Richard Kinyera, a Ugandan national based in Switzerland, was found dead in a lodge in Kitgum Town on the morning of Friday, October 3, 2025.

According to emerging reports shared on social media, the late Kinyera, a native of Pajule Sub-county in Pader District, had recently returned to Uganda to attend the burial of his father, which took place on September 6, 2025.

Sources close to the family say he had planned to travel back to Switzerland shortly after the funeral, but unexpected changes in his return flight forced him to postpone his journey and rebook from Nairobi at a later date. During the extended stay, Kinyera reportedly spent time managing his personal projects across northern Uganda. These included livestock farming in Pajule, a tractor investment in Nwoya, a truck business, and the construction of a residential house in Kitgum. Friends describe him as a hardworking and forward-looking man who was deeply committed to developing his home region.

Tragically, on the night before his death, Kinyera is said to have gone out for drinks in Kitgum Town. Witnesses allege that he was later accompanied by two unidentified men to a nearby lodge, where he was discovered lifeless the following morning by a staff member.

Police officers in Kitgum have since launched investigations to establish the cause of death and to identify the suspects involved in the incident. The circumstances surrounding his death remain unclear, and authorities are yet to release an official statement pending the completion of postmortem and forensic examinations.

This disturbing event adds to a growing list of mysterious deaths involving Ugandans returning from abroad. It comes only months after the murder of David and Deborah Florence Mutaaga, a retired couple from Zurich, Switzerland, who were brutally killed in their Entebbe home. Despite a UGX 60 million bounty announced by police, the killers in that case remain at large.

Residents across northern Uganda and the diaspora community have expressed deep sorrow over Kinyera’s death, describing it as a painful loss of another dedicated citizen who had returned to invest in his homeland. May his soul rest in eternal peace.
